GA college reaches football ticket sales milestone

The Associated Press

KENNESAW, Ga. — Kennesaw State University officials say they've reached a milestone for football ticket sales since the school announced it was launching an NCAA Division I program earlier this year.

Spokesman Al Barba says Kennesaw State University has sold more than 1,000 season ticket deposits for the school's inaugural 2015 season at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

Barba says the sales account for nearly a third of all available seats in the team's stadium, and a total about 3,600 seats are available for sale.

Director of ticket sales and operations Bob Lindsey says the tickets were sold in just over three months.

Kyle Garmes: College football may be getting too big for its britches

They say that empires fall when they get too big for themselves. In a literal sense, that meant that back in the day, territories became too far away. Kings were too far from their people.

Today, we use the words 'empire' and 'dynasties' when it comes to sports.

And when those go down, it's when they've become too popular, tried to do too much.

And I'm beginning to think that's just what might happen with college football.

Life is good in many ways for America's most popular sport on college campuses.

The best regular season in sports keeps fans locked in from Labor Day until past Thanksgiving. Three months of fine football, usually followed by a compelling national title matchup.

Sorry, college basketball, but your regular season draws nary a glance compared to a primetime October showdown for college football. You can have your three weeks of fun in the NCAA tournament, but America hardly cares what happens in November on the hardwood.
