Dellibac battles back to take 2nd at World Games

Kankakee's Tommy Dellibac lives on the edge.

So he might have been out of contention early while canopy piloting last week at the World Games in Cali, Colombia, but he was far from done.

Dellibac flew back, literally, to narrowly capture the silver medal at the highly competitive games, which serve as the highest level of canopy piloting. He was in 24th place out of 36 jumpers after one round.

"That was definitely the biggest comeback I've ever made," the 33-year-old Kankakee High School grad said with a laugh on Tuesday.

Dellibac, who now lives in Florida and competes for Performance Design Factory, has made a lifestyle out of the extreme sport, which calls for competitors to skydive out a plane, then parachute into a landing area, where they're measured for speed, distance and accuracy.

There were nine total rounds in the 36-competitor field, with three each day.
